Support Shane’s new album crowdfunding campaign

In March 2017 Shane launched his new band MABUTA.
The group features:
Bokani Dyer (piano, keys)
Marlon Witbooi (drums)
Sisonke Xonti (tenor sax)
and Robin Fassie-Kock (trumpet).

They are running a crowdfunding campaign on indiegogo.com for the month of July to raise money to record in studio later this year.
All the music is ready to be recorded.
They just need your support to cover the costs of production, post-production and printing.
MABUTA will release a full length studio album, plus a remixes EP featuring some top producers from around the world including Daedelus (Brainfeeder, Ninja Tune), Slugabed (Ninja Tune, Anticon), Kid Fonque (Stay True Sounds), and Jazzuelle (Get Physical Music).

2017 – Shane launches his band MABUTA

Shane has launched his new Joburg based quintet MABUTA.  Hear them at their next shows at The Orbit in Joburg on 14 & 15 July 2017.

They will be running a month long crowd-funding campaign on indiegogo.com for the month of July to raise money to record a new album this year.  On 16 July the band will also perform live on Brenda Sisane’s show The Art Of Sunday on Kaya fm.  More info on the crowd-funding coming in July. Skyjack debut album out now on Bandcamp and iTunes

Cover_Skyjack.inddSkyjack is the collab band consisting of SA artists Shane Cooper (bass), Kyle Shepherd (piano) and Kesivan Naidoo (drums), with Swiss artists Marc Stucki (tenor sax) and Andreas Tschopp (trombone).  They formed in 2013 in South Africa and since have done several tours in Europe and South Africa.  Their eponymous debut album was released in 2016 and is now available on iTunes, Bandcamp or physical copies at their shows (or Shane’s shows).

Debut Shane Cooper album ‘Oscillations’ now available

The debut Shane Cooper Quintet record ‘Oscillations’ won a SAMA (South African Music Award) in 2014 for Best Jazz Album.
The album features Kesivan Naidoo (drums), Bokani Dyer (piano, rhodes), Reza Khota (guitar), Justin Bellairs (alto saxophone), Buddy Wells (tenor saxophone). The album was co-produced by Shane Cooper and Carlo Mombelli.

Shane was awarded the 2013 Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year for Jazz and was selected as one of the Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans for 2013.

Restless Natives Triple Album now available


The new Restless Natives triple album is finally out.
The band was a collaborative group with:
Shane Cooper – electric bass, double bass, bass synth, samples
Lee Thomson – trumpet & flugelhorn
Jason Reolon – piano, keyboard, synth
Chris Engel – saxophones, effects
Kesivan Naidoo – drums
The triple album consists of 2 discs recorded live, and one studio album. All original compositions.
